Sinfonia Leeds - CONCERT PROGRAMME 2005/2006

This Page Was Last Updated June 2, 2006

Sinfonia was founded in 1973 by Graham Bennett, who was conductor for the next seventeen years. His avowed aim was to bring together the best amateur musicians in the area, and to weld them into a chamber orchestra with professional standards of performance and presentation.
Besides performing the standard chamber orchestra repertoire, Sinfonia has commissioned and performed new works by Philip Wilby, Arthur Wills, William Kinghorn and Lawrence Killian.

In the past four years Sinfonia has enjoyed a close association with the Orchestra of Opera North. Their leader, David Greed, is Sinfonia's musical director and conductor. Under his guidance Sinfonia's all-round ability has been refined - particularly with regard to the quality of the string playing.

Over the years the orchestra has worked with many eminent soloists, among them Michael Roll and the late Ralph Holmes, while the connection with Opera North has given us the opportunity to work with a number of soloists from Opera North - not least David Greed himself.
