As a city Leeds is very much geared up for its huge student population, and offers many facilities and activities to fill up your time. Many students who come to the city to study, end up staying on to live and work here after graduation. The main areas inhabited by students, and ex-students in the city are, Headingley, Burley, Hyde Park and Meanwood. The nightlife in and around the city is renowned for both its diversity and the sheer number of places to go for a night out. The city boasts hundreds of pubs and bars, some of the best night-clubs and musical venues in the country, a thriving local music scene, and a full range of theatres, cinemas, restaurants, takeaways, etc, etc, etc............!! Leeds really is a great place to live!! For shopaholics, there's a huge variety of places to spend your wages, grant and student loan, with thousands of shops (including the famous Harvey Nichols) and quite a large number of shopping centres, in and around town. Leeds is said to have more parkland and open space than any other city in not just Britain, but in Europe. These open spaces offer the opportunity to spend relaxing hours in the great outdoors without having to travel too far. However, within an hour or so of Leeds, in most directions, there are more opportunities to get out and about, in the Yorkshire Dales, Derbyshire, Etc. The city is also Britain's most important financial centre outside of London, being home to many major banks, accountancy companies, insolvency practitioners, insurance firms, consultants, solicitors and building societies, as well as appearing to be home to every telephone call centre in the world!!!!!!!!!! Headingley Home to the Leeds Rhinos, rugby league team, and Yorkshire County Cricket Club, at the well renowned Headingley Stadium, the area has plenty of options for killing some time. There is a good selection of shops and services, and quite a few pubs, with buses into town every five minutes or so, making the area an ideal home base for any student. Meanwood probably suffers from what really is an slightly undeserved reputation, but is still a pretty decent place to live. As with the other main student areas, Meanwood has a whole variety of services available for the active student, but is spread over a wider area. Meanwood benefits from having a lovely huge park at its centre and the unmissable Meanwood trail, at points in which it's possible to forget you're in a city at all. The bus services from Meanwood into town are very good, but not quite as good as some other areas. As with Meanwood, Burley probably suffers from what really is an slightly undeserved reputation, but is still a pretty decent place to live. As with the other main student areas, Burley has a whole variety of services available for the active student, including shops, takeaways & pubs. Burley Park is situated in central part of the area and is a lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon, lounging around. The bus services from Burley into town & to other parts of the city are very good. Hyde Park is, like Headingley, ideally suited to student life, with a good variety of pubs, bars, places to eat, and shops. One of the most appealing features of the area, however, is the park itself, perfect for a game of football or a lazy Sunday afternoon. Again, just like Headingley the area is served by a selection of very regular bus services into town.
