1st Saturday of Each Month Upstairs at Santiago's, Grand Arcade

REVIEW
"Saturday night's Defibrillator was the sixth monthly event put on by Emlyn and Dr Bod. The night has been building since last year (in terms of quality, atmosphere and numbers) and tonight it all came together.

The Cellar bar was, as usual, tastefully bedecked with candles and fairy lights, really setting the tone for a laid back night of 'breaks, beats, hip hop, alternative, disco, dub, dance and twisted live computerised electronica'. From 9-10 we were treated to Dr Bod's aforementioned electronica - a professionally assembled set of homemade music sampling all manner of dub, dance, reggae and weird and wonderful noises. I recommend getting there early - this is not to be missed! At 10pm, as the venue started to fill up, Emlyn took over, starting as usual with Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy..(always a treat) and taking us on a journey through his very eclectic record collection of hip hop, indie pop, house and everything in between. By 11pm the Cellar Bar was packed, but the atmosphere remained relaxed and friendly as always. The tiny dance floor soon filled up and we enjoyed another two hours of funky and interesting music, competently delivered to a happy crowd.

A comfortable venue, candles and fairy lights, friendly door people, £2 in (half to LMHR), fantastic tunes (completely new ones every time), a friendly crowd, a relaxed atmosphere and two very approachable DJs - what more could you want? Thank you Bod and Emlyn for a great time, and well done for putting a lot of hard work into such a fantastic night - I shall return (with all my friends!)" - Catherine Tonge
