REVIEW
"Another
album from the Cream series, released just in time for the summer.
An album of classic tracks from clubbers paradise – Ibiza, it’s
release coinciding with the super-club celebrating 10 years in the
clubbing capital.
There
are usually many albums of this sort released for the summer, a mix
of recent tracks and some older ones intended to bring back memories
of holidays past. All generally billed as ‘the soundtrack to
your summer’ they rarely deliver. These albums usually seem
to be made up of few big club anthems and a disappointing mix of tracks
you’ve never heard in clubs or anywhere else for that matter
and those tracks which don’t seem good enough to have made the
grade onto a dance album for public release.
So,
to Cream Ibiza Classics, a pleasant surprise on the track listing
– I had heard of every tune on the album! What’s more
on first inspection all was looking pretty good and I was hopeful
that this was an album of classic Ibiza dance music.
The
album really hits the mark with massive clubbing classics such as
Renegade Master, Café Del Mar and Higher State of Consciousness,
the sort of huge track you would expect to find on an album like this.
It covers all the big-hitters of the Ibiza clubbing scene; Tiesto,
Oakenfold, Layo & Bushwacker, Tim Deluxe, William Orbit, Basement
Jaxx, Leftfield and Laurent Garnier to name but a few, a fantastic
mix of artists in itself. But, the album also includes more commercial
tracks that even non clubbers would know well; Mr Oizo – Flatbeat,
Olive – You’re Not Alone, Benny Benassi – Satisfaction,
that have featured in the charts but have also made it big on the
Ibiza scene.
The
mix works well and manages to tick all the boxes, with enough classic
club tracks to hold the interest of true clubbers and more commercial
tracks that will also keep the non clubbers listening, without being
too commercial to alienate the true Ibiza dance fans.
This
album really delivers, a fantastic mix of old and new tracks, with
some absolute classics, the sort of tracks you would instantly think
of when coming up with your classic dance tracks. For any dance music
fans out there this truly could be the soundtrack to your summer!"
